A New Thing

Last year I shared a short essay titled "God’s Mother Tongue". It was a soliloquy about poetry as play. I was exploring my identity as a writer in general, and a poet in particular. I had not yet had the revelation of myself as a poet. I still don’t think I’m there yet, but I’m getting closer.

I shared a line of poetry I had been playing with—“I am more poem than poet.” Like Andy in Toy Story, I played with it so intently for so long that it gave in and came to life in a piece titled “A New Thing”.

I had the opportunity to share it for the first time at National Community Church last weekend, and I want to share it with you too. I hope it encourages you in some realities that you already know to be true. Click to watch:

I’m looking forward to sharing more thought-provoking essays, and more content as things come into focus for my other writing projects in 2025.
